Today we will be exploring the possibilities of Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality is a way of experiencing sight, and sometimes sound and touch that creates environments that you literally go into and see information all around you.
Virtual Reality has been all over science fiction... from the great writers like Philip K. Dick, to movies like Lawnmower Man and the Matrix, to the Holodeck of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The potential Virtual Reality has to change our world is vast. Imagine students being able to travel to ancient Rome and witness it evolve in front of them... or going back in time and feeling like you’re actually walking with dinosaurs...
I will be speaking with two individuals in the field of Virtual Reality. First, Dr. Tom DeFanti of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, who is a pioneer in Virtual Reality. We talk about the StarCAVE virtually reality theater he created that’s allowing scientist to use Virtual Reality to venture into worlds as small as nanoparticles and as large as the cosmos. Then I will be speaking with Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus VR, whose wearable, immersive technology, Oculus Rift will revolutionize how we experience interactive content.
